Scholarships

At NMSU, you can qualify for two different types of scholarships. The scholarships listed below are automatically awarded based on your admissions application. Additionally, you can apply for all other NMSU scholarships with a single application using Scholar Dollar$Scholar Dollar$ opens October 1. For priority consideration, apply by March 1.

Academic Index

Your Academic Index Score is calculated using your High School GPA and ACT Score. Some of our scholarships use this score to determine eligibility. (ACT x 2.778) + (GPA x 25) = Academic Index Score (Maximum possible score is 200.)

In-State Residents

These scholarships are effective for new students entering Fall 2018 and after, and pursuing their first Bachelor's degree. They are applicable to fall and spring semesters only, and are renewable for three consecutive years, after the initial award year, unless otherwise stated. Students must be admitted to the NMSU Las Cruces campus to receive these scholarships.

High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. Tuition and fees. $3,250 stipend per academic year and the one-year $4,000 NMSU Housing Award. Awarded using a blind selection process with a maximum of 15 awards offered each year. 3.25 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours each semester. Must submit a Scholar Dollar$ application and be admitted with ACT/SAT test scores on file by December 1.
Conroy Merit Scholarship Designated a National Merit Finalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Tuition and fees. $5,000 stipend per academic year and the  one-year $4,000 NMSU Housing Award. 3.3 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours each semester. No application required.
Conroy Achievement Scholarship Designated a National Merit Semi-finalist or National Achievement Scholar by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation or Designated a National Hispanic Scholar by College Board. Tuition and fees. $2,500 stipend per academic year and the one-year NMSU Housing Award. 3.3 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours each semester. No application required.

State-funded Scholarship

Students must qualify for the Legislative Lottery Scholarship during their first semester. Qualifying students will begin receiving it during their second semester. The Legislative Lottery Scholarship amount is subject to change by the New Mexico Higher Education Department or the New Mexico Legislature.

Legislative Lottery Scholarship New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. Must enroll in college within 16 months after high school graduation or receipt of GED/ HiSET. First semester college GPA of 2.5 and pass 15 credits. Percentage of tuition. 2.5 cumulative GPA and pass 15 credits per semester for a maximum of seven semesters No application required.

Institutional Scholarships

The following scholarships will be awarded in addition to the Legislative Lottery Scholarship. A student may qualify for only one Institutional Scholarship.

Crimson Success Scholarship Academic Index of 145 - 158.999. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. $4,000 per academic year. 'A' Mountain Merit Scholarship Academic Index of 118 - 132.999. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET $1,500 per academic year. Limited number available. 2.5 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours each semester No application required.
Pete's Opportunity Scholarship Academic Index of 100 - 117.999. New Mexico resident. High school diploma from a NM accredited school, a NM GED, or a NM-HiSET. $1,000 per academic year 2.25 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credits per academic year. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours each semester No application required.

Out-Of-State Residents

These scholarships are effective for new students entering Fall 2017 and after, and pursuing their first Bachelor's degree. They are applicable to fall and spring semesters only. Students must be admitted to the NMSU Las Cruces campus to receive these scholarships.

Out-of-State Scholarships

The following Out-of-State Scholarships may be awarded in addition to an Out-of-State Discount listed below (a student can qualify for only one scholarship and one discount, excluding the NMSU Housing Award). Out-of-State Scholarships are renewable for three consecutive years, after the initial award year, unless otherwise stated.

These scholarships are effective for new students entering Fall 2018 and after, and pursuing their first Bachelor's degree. They are applicable to fall and spring semesters only. Students must be admitted to the NMSU Las Cruces Campus to receive these scholarships.

Transfer Scholarships

The following Transfer Scholarships may be awarded in addition to a Transfer Award below (a student can qualify for only one scholarship and one award). NM Resident Transfer students may also be eligible for the remaining semesters on their Legislative Lottery Scholarship award. Transfer Scholarships are renewable for one consecutive year, after the initial award year, unless otherwise stated.

'A' Mountain Merit Transfer Scholarship   Must be admitted to the NMSU Las Cruces campus as a transfer student. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours per semester. Cumulative transfer GPA 3.25 – 3.49 with a maximum of 90 transferable credit hours, including any in progress credit hours. NM Resident, U.S. Citizen, or Permanent Resident. $2,000 per academic year. Pete's Opportunity Transfer Scholarship   Must be admitted to the NMSU Las Cruces campus as a transfer student. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours per semester. Cumulative transfer GPA 3.0 – 3.24 with a maximum of 90 transferable credit hours, including any in progress credit hours. NM Resident, U.S. Citizen, or Permanent Resident. $1,500 per academic year. Limited number available. 2.75 cumulative GPA and pass 30 new credit hours per academic year. No application required.
Phi Theta Kappa   Must be admitted to the NMSU Las Cruces campus as a transfer student. Must enroll in, and attempt, 15 new credit hours per semester. Must be certified member of PTK with a 3.5 cumulative college GPA. NM Resident, U.S. Citizen, or Permanent Resident. $500 per academic year.
